“Bab-üs Saadet” (Gate of White Eunuchs or Gate of Felicity)
If we take the broad middle path in the Second Court, we reach this gate; it leads to the “Enderun” court. It dates from the reign of Mehmet II(15th century) and has 18th century rococo decoration. In the fron there is a wide roof, supported by four fine columns; the wall and ceiling paintings are noteworthy.
This gate was a background for important events in Ottoman history. In front of it took place:
Grand ceremonies: festivals celebrating sultans’ accessions to the throne, the receiving of homepage on religious holidays, and the bestowal of titles upon army commanders.
