Istanbul has been for centuries one of the centers of world civilization, first under the Roman Empire, then Byzantines and Ottoman Empire. In this tour, our experienced tour guides will bring you through the most relevant monuments of the city.
The tour starts with the visit to the basilica-mosque of Hagia Sophia. Built by Constantine the Great in the 4th century and rebuilt by Justinian, Hagia Sophia was transformed into a mosque after the Ottoman conquer of Istanbul in the 1453. It is considered one of the architectural marvels of all time.
The second step will be the Old Hippodrome, which today is a square at the center of the Sultahmet complex. There you will appreciate the Obelisk of Theodosius, the Column of Constantine and the German Fountain of Wilhelm II. After the hippodrome you will visit the Sultanahmet Mosque, known also as the ‘Blue Mosque’. Built in the 17th century, it is characterized by its six minarets and its porcelain decorations with Iznik tiles.
The last step will be the Grand Bazaar (covered market) of Istanbul. Its construction started on the 15th century, the golden age of Ottoman Empire. In this labyrinth of more than 4000 shops, you will find the best art and craft products of Turkey, symbols of the enormous cultural heritage of this territory and its tradition.
Note: on Monday St.Sophia is replaced with underground cistern; on Sunday grand bazaar is replaced by underground cistern.
