Places to visit
North Cappadocia
Goreme Open Air Museum; this is an amazing and miraculous small city cave located in Goreme Valley. This city was built by the christians in 11th century to protect their faith. The special museum looks like a huge monastic complex consisted of numerous monasteries situated side by side, each with its own fantastic church. It contains churches, chapels, refectories, kitchens and living places.
Pasabaglar; also known as Monks Valley in Cappadocia is located on the road to Zelve, coming from Goreme or Avanos. You can see the earth pillars in the middle of a vineyard, hence the name of the place which means: the Pasha’s vineyard. Pasha means “General”, the military rank, in Turkish. Pasabag valley contains some of the most striking fairy chimneys in Cappadocia with twin and even triple rock caps. This style is unique even for Cappadocia and these fairy chimneys are named mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys.
Devrent Valley; it is famous for its lunar landscape also known as pink valley and Imaginary Valley does not have cave churches like the other valleys of Cappadocia. The small fairy chimneys in the valley form a moonscape, by their strange look. The valley also has many animal shaped rocks.
Uchisar Castle; it is located on the highest point of Cappadocia on the Nevsehir-Goreme road. You can enjoy the panoramic view from the site.
Avanos; it is situated on the banks of the Kizilirmak, the Red River. The town is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) from Goreme. It is famous for pottery since the Hittites. Pottery has been produced in the Avanos area for centuries and some of the techniques still used date back to Hittite times to 2000 BC. The Hittites named the town “Zu Wanes” and it became “Venessa” during the Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Empire.
South Cappadocia
Soganli Valley; is located in Yeşilhisar district, Kayseri Province, Turkey, in the southeastern part of the region of Cappadocia. You can enjoy the beautiful view of rock cut churches and rock cut buildings carved from the soft tuff stone of the Cappadocian landscape.
Taskinpasa Madrasah; is a underground city of cuppadocia. The Madrasah building, the nearby mosque and Toshun Pasha’s tomb were built in the 14th century by the Karamanids using classical Seljuk style stone decoration. You will be amazed by the details of the stonework on the Medrese doorway.
Mustafapasa – Sinasos; it remained the christianian town through out the Seljuks and Ottoman period Mustafapasa in the central Cappadocia region of Turkey is steeped in Greek Orthodox history, specifically the Ottoman years before the Turkish War of Independence in the early 20th century, when Turks and Greeks lived side by side in harmony.
Kaymakli Sobesos Roman Bath; is located in quite remote area of shahınefendi in Cappadocia. You can experience the famous Roman bath. The Roman Bath section has a proper hypocaust (in-floor heating system) central heating system, which still can be seen. The Agora is located right next to the bath and is a basic shopping mall of ancient times.
